SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a process designed to increase the ranking of a web page in search engine results pages (SERPs). This is achieved by undertaking analysis of competitor websites, streamlining the site to allow search engines (such as Google) to crawl the website effectively, improving the content to make it more relevant to the searcher, plus a number of other factors to improve accessibility to both search engine robots and ultimately the end user.
As an example, a user may search Google with the query “Web Design” and Google will then display a list of websites that it has predetermined to be relevant to those keywords.
Your position in a search engine’s listing can be crucial to the success of your online business. A website at the top of a search engine list will receive far more visitors than one that has not been listed.
In some markets, such as Internet stores, being highly ranked in a search engine is critical and because of this the market is extremely competitive, constantly trying to further optimize for greater page ranking. In fact, SEO is now a market of it’s own.
